IPL VS PSL 2024: PRIZE MONEY COMPARISON

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League is poised to captivate audiences as the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, commence their title defense against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22. This cash-rich league, which debuted in 2008, spurred the inception of franchise T20 tournaments in various nations. Notably, Pakistan launched its own T20 league, the Pakistan Super League, in 2016, garnering significant popularity within the country.

Islamabad United emerged victorious in the PSL 2024 championship, defeating Multan Sultans in the final showdown. This marked their third title win in the league’s history. They were awarded a prize purse of PKR 14,00,00,000 (approximately INR 4.13 crore), while the runners-up, Multan Sultans, received PKR 5,60,00,000 (approximately INR 1.65 crore).

In contrast, the recently crowned champions of the Women’s Premier League 2024, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, outshone the PSL winners in terms of earnings. Led by Smriti Mandhana, they secured their maiden title by defeating Delhi Capitals in the final match and claimed a prize of INR 6 crore. Meanwhile, the runners-up, Delhi Capitals, took home INR 3 crore, finishing second for the second consecutive year.

Furthermore, the Indian Premier League remains the most lucrative franchise league tournament, with the winning team receiving a prize of INR 20 crore, as was claimed by Chennai Super Kings in the previous season. Remarkably, even the runners-up of the last IPL season, Gujarat Titans, earned more than three times the prize money awarded to a PSL champion, with a sum of INR 13 crore.
